SUB-PAR
Camomile Tea
only at
PS. Cafe
Today, I had the sheer misfortune of patronizing PS. cafe, another uppity dining establishment snugly located in Singapore's tai-tai enclave - Palais Renaissance. The purpose of my visit was not to indulge in my usual fanfare of afternoon tea; instead, I was there to discuss work. Thus, professional ethics dictate that I not order anything to eat even though I was quite keen on the Pineapple Meringue Pie.
After balking at the price list (the standard Croque Monsieur cost a whooping 24SGD! Even the TWG and Hediard versions are well below the price ceiling of 20SGD!) and mulling over the woeful lack of tea selection, I decided finally to opt for a pot of Camomile tea which costs 7.50 SGD (++). At such a shameless price, I expected this everyday classic to be a cut above Twinnings or whichever supermarket-brand's variation of it. However, yours truly was sorely disappointed when the sad-looking pot of tea descended. Not only was the amount miserly, the quality was unbecoming of any tea joint - the tea was served LUKEwarm (gasp!) and it tasted bland. Were it not for the fact that I was there for a business parley, I would have requested for the wait staff to investigate into my inferior beverage.
Well, I may not have tried the food or their desserts, but after this deplorable experience, I think I will pass, gladly.
Gem feels: PS. Cafe is but a fancy chi-chi establishment - a rip-off! But then again, this may be a one-time-off episode, ne?
Coming up: A review on the newly-revamped Michaelangelo's at Chip Bee Gardens (p.s. they have got a new head chef too!)
