The IT-LIFE #3: How to pronounce Hermès

Her-meh, Her-mez, Air-mez, Eck-mehz? Which one is the right pronunciation? I’m sure that many of you out there, fashionistas or not, have been put in a spot or have had red creeping up your cheeks because you had no clue as to how to pronounce some luxury brand name. I can also vouch that a good number of you have given your own rendition of ___insert luxury brand___.

Personally, I feel that it is no shame to not know how to pronounce a brand name (since many brand names are not in our native language) though others may not think the same way. They may secretly snub you for a mispronunciation… and well, you may think that they are just snobs. For now, let us leave all value judgments aside. Either way, it’s better to know how to pronounce something rather than not. Well, you have the dough, you buy the fantabulous bag, and it will be good to pronounce its brand name right especially since you are paying substantially for the brand in itself!

Here is a list of brand names you should know how to pronounce!

Hey Jim, whoever felt that they had ta' seek validation from the boutique's SAs or their rich snob friends on the pronunciation of brand names, what a douche tsk tsk. Dude, shouldn't we let our wallets do the talking, haha. Interesting post you've got there though, and one last thing, isn't Bebe pronounced as "bear-beh"??

Hi there Daryl,

I did a check and it is pronounced as Bee-bee, the boutique name, that is. But in french, it will be pronouced as beh-bay, so I guess you are also right!
