The IT-LIFE #1: Zouk membership

Those in-tuned with the clubbing world will know of the holy grail of all cards: the Zouk membership card. I am not an avid clubber but I do hear of friends wishing to be bestowed membership status. Thus, I decided to check out what makes the membership card so highly sought after. I would suppose that a fair share of you readers have logged on to Zouk’s official website to check out how you may obtain the elusive card especially since you are a regular spender there only to be disappointed by the “rubber band” requirements.

Well, according to the Zouk official website, it seems that there are 2 ways to obtain their complimentary membership (Yes, the membership card is complimentary which only means one thing - technically speaking, it cannot be bought by money).

Firstly, one can enter via the “corporate membership” route where one is in a complementary industry such as media or fashion or creative. Another possible way is through staff recommendations. Basically, Zouk says that one will have to “BE SEEN” regularly patronizing the club and partying the night away. Also, it will be helpful if you were to introduce yourself to the right management and staff such as the front office desk. I suppose that when the right people know you by name and by face, and that your “resume” is impressive enough, they will invite you to be a member.

Wow! All I can say is that the Zouk card is really exclusive. Since the issuance of membership is solely based on managerial discretion, it seems that Zouk must really want you there and see value in your presence! They want the rich and the famous/popular, the loyal, the PR and amiable types – Wow, you really got to have the whole works! (sounds like Gossip Girl, no?)

So, let us say that you have managed to charm your way into getting the tricky plastic... and all is good right? Not quite so... well, your membership has a shelf life of only 6 months and renewal is based on whether you have hit renewal requirements which I guess means how often you frequent Zouk, how much you spend and the likes. Maintaining your membership sure sounds like hard work!

But then again, i'm sure there are other more exclusive and thus, more elusive events membership out there...

On a side note, Jim, can you update our readers and me on the Club21 card? I think that many would be interested in finding out more about it.

For all you lucky Zouk members out there, I would like to know: is the Zouk membership card really worth it? Is the return purely in the form of prestige? Or perhaps, the VIP area is where you really network...
