On the 25th of June, 2008, the world bade farewell to a legend--- Michael Jackson. Dead or alive, any decent super-star was bound to generate gossip, as was the case with Michael Jackson's death. His was one shrouded in mystery and fraught with rumours of conspiracy theories, homicide and suicide, all of which of course, soon became media fodder. Consumed by speculation, and distracted by tabloid reports, the world, in some way, seemed to have neglected the significance of his passing.
That wasn't the only thing they neglected though.
In case you didn't know already, Michael Jackson was a huge fashion icon (and I mean HUGE!). Honestly, while i wasn't a huge fan of his music, I am certainly in awe of his ability to influence fashion, even beyond the grave! His taste in regal, romantic, futuristic and even gothic looking clothes naturally led him to choose Ricardo Tisci of Givenchy to dress him for his "This Is It" concert, part of a series of concerts that was to mark his return to the music scene and his eventual retirement from it. As fate would have it, Michael Jackson's come-back concert never came to be, thanks to his untimely demise. Alas, Ricardo never had a chance to showcase his design genius to the world through one of the most influential figures of modern times.
Nevertheless, he paid homage to Michael Jackson through his Spring/Summer 2010 collection. Deviating from his usual gothic, edgy designs, Ricardo opted for eye-catching prints, and more bling, a la Michael Jackson to honour the passing of a great king, the King of Pop.
