Gasp! Tights and Leggings!

Hello everyone, I have been itching to talk about this fashion trend for a long time mainly because so much social-ills (epic-fails, actually) have come with it. There, I said it! Honestly, if there is some kind of ratio representing tights/ leggings wearers, it would be as follows:

Only people with slender legs can pull off leggings and tights. If your legs are not too slender, tights should not be a staple - wearing them once in a while is okay. If your legs are chunky, I think that you should steer clear of leggings and especially tights (it’s sheerer counterpart). Outlining your chunks is not in the least flattering!

Well, mainly because I do not have slender legs, I shun the world of leggings and tights and whatever cloth that cling-wraps one’s legs. As I broached this topic, I faced this preliminary problem: what is the difference between tights and leggings anyway? And then, there is also this thing called pantyhose (which I will not bother myself with). I have always thought they were all one and the same, but I decided not to risk embarrassing myself if tights and leggings turn out to be distinct wear so I researched (I Google-d and Wikipedia-ed)

For those who, like me, have no clue on the difference between the tights and leggings, I hope this blog post will serve to enlighten you, as writing it did me. There is a whole lot out there on this topic - Wikipedia talks about the history of these cling-wrap garments! Well, on Tartarus Berries, I am making sure you only know what you need to know...

In the past, tights are supposed to cover the foot while leggings only cover the legs. But in modern context, we now have footless tights and leggings so I suppose this distinction does not hold anymore.

The Modern context

Tights

Tights are more transparent than leggings. Like many will lament when they see some females revealing more skin and gasp! bulge than they should, “tights are not pants!!”

Leggings

As you can see, leggings are more opaque-ish and can be worn as pants.

Well anyway, for the most part, I do not think that tights nor leggings are fashion symbols. They are, well, just there for pairing up with...though on the right figure, and if worn right, tights and leggings can make the outfit look absolutely stunning. For the rest of us, it is quite safe to say that they are definitely not the choice garment. What do you all think?
