Jim thinks: Spring 2010

What better way to welcome the new year than to take a peek at what fashion has to offer this coming spring/summer?

Jim takes you through what he thinks are the key trends in fashion come Spring 2010.

Leather
Not exactly the usual suspect when it comes to spring fashion, designers are sending models down the runway clad in, well, leather. And it's not just leather jackets we're talking about. We're looking at leather jeans, blouses and even shirts here.

While it is an odd move considering the higher temperatures and stuffiness in spring/summer, I have to say it is refreshing; a bold and certainly unconventional move in terms of the use of materials. Have a look:

A word of advice for all you fashion victims out there: Do not attempt to wear such leather-wear in Singapore. I mean, think about what all that perspiration would do to the leather!

Wow Jim, why doesn't it surprise me that the well-being of the leather comes before its wearer! - Gem
Bee-yotch, how could u insinuate i care more about clothes than the people who don them? Well, maybe i do. - Jim

Looser Bottoms
Designers have long been trying to introduce looser cuts for men ever since pencil-thin skinny jeans took over the world(or at least Singapore) when Hedi Slimane reigned in the men's fashion world. Now Kris Van Assche(of Dior Homme) has finally driven home the idea with his collection for Dior this spring. Absolutely eschewing skin-tight, figure-hugging clothes, he shows us a world where men are comfortable in loose-fitting tops and bottoms. Time to put those skinny jeans into cold storage for a while and experiment with breathable clothes, no?

And there you have it, my interpretation of Spring/Summer's key trends in a nutshell.

Till next time,

Jim

While I am not as fashion-fastforward as Jim in terms of the latest luxe, I definitely do appreciate the good pieces and the OMG pieces as they come up. Well, Jim, the Balenciaga leather jeans and hoodie just does it for me. I cannot believe that she (refer to Balenciaga model above) is leather-clad from head to toe and still look so chic. When I imagine someone being leather-clad, nothing like that comes to mind. Moo-oooh! Since when do cows look so darn good...!

Jim, your last point is well-made - the skinny jeans got to go! really!
